Lessons that fit the player
Children and young beginners
Build comfortable posture, confident sound production, rhythm and listening skills, and a practice routine that feels achievable. Around age seven is generally recommended, with younger students considered individually.
Returning adults
Reconnect with the instrument, rebuild technique without judgment, and make steady progress around a busy life.
Developing musicians
Strengthen tone, intonation, musical interpretation, and preparation for auditions, ensembles, or personal projects.
Age & learning fit
Children, teens, and adults are welcome
Ming has taught students from age five to 78. For children, around age seven is generally the most comfortable starting point because students can usually sustain attention, follow several steps, and practice with family support. Younger children—including five-year-olds—may be a good fit after an individual conversation about attention, goals, and caregiver involvement.
Teaching approach
Clear guidance, careful listening
Each lesson combines technique, repertoire, ear training, and practical problem-solving. Ming explains ideas in more than one way and adapts pacing to how you learn best.
You will leave with a focused practice plan—not an overwhelming list. Repertoire may include classical music, familiar songs, ensemble parts, or personally meaningful selections.
